Matt Kirby

Matt Kirby came to The Kansas City Art Institute over four decades ago, and stayed to make art and play music. From his home and studio in Baldwin City KS, many sculptures, instruments, furniture and architectural pieces have made their way into the world. Matt has been playing and building hammered dulcimers since 1976, conducting workshops on sound physics from time to time, and is widely considered a very friendly mad scientist. For this production, Matt draws upon his fascination with English Morris tunes on the button accordion, and the traditions of New England contra-dance tunes from his native Massachusetts.
