We are currently looking for:

Mesner Puppet Theater puppeteers are scheduled to tour across the Midwest Region, and occasionally beyond. Artists train with Mike Horner, Director of Puppetry Arts, who ensures the excellence of the puppetry and provides guidance on best practices in touring.

Required Qualifications:

  • Training/experience in acting, clowning, improvisation, and/or puppetry.

  • Passion or interest in performing for young people ages 4-8 years old.

  • Reliable with strong communication skills.

  • Creative problem solver.

  • Customer service focused.

  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.

  • Ability to tour multiple days, sometimes staying overnight.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.



  • Perform production as rehearsed.

  • Maintain puppets, props, and set while on tour.

  • Load/Unload materials and set up production at venues.

  • Communicate with venue staff and production sponsors.

  • Report attendance numbers to MPT staff.

  • Respond to email.

  • Represent Mesner Puppet Theater to communities through conducting self and work with professionalism and empathy.

November 15-December 10, 2021 & January 6-31, 2022


Rehearsals: 9am-5pm Nov 15-19, Nov 22-24 @ MPT Studio

Tech: 9am-5pm Nov 30-Dec 3 @ Midwest Trust Center

Performances: 11am Dec 4 & 5 @ Midwest Trust Center

10am & 1pm Dec 7-10 @ Midwest Trust Center


Brush Up: 9am-1pm Jan 6 & 7, 2022 @ MPT Studio

Tour to Atlanta: January 11-31, 2022 @ Center for Puppetry Arts*


*Travel expenses, accommodations, & per diem provided for Atlanta tour


Required Availability for Animal Amigos:

Starting August 23, 2021


Rehearsals: 9am-1pm August 23-27 @ MPT Studio

9am-1pm Sept 20 @ MPT Studio


Performances:** 6pm Sept 21 @ KCK Public Library - South Branch

Oct 5, 6, 7 @ Blue Spring School District (times TBD)

** Additional performances possible throughout the 2021-2022 season. This is a two person show. The performer cast will work with our Director of Puppetry Arts to perform.

Artists are paid as contractors.


Artists will receive a rehearsal stipend (total will be determined based on number of days needed for rehearsal based on experience and scheduling). Performer will be paid $60 per performance.

MPT will pay for lodging and a per diem for overnight tours, and will reimburse for mileage beyond a 30-mile radius if use of personal transportation is required.


$900 - Rehearsal Fee to prep for both runs and brush up

$600 - Midwest Trust Center Performances

$2340 - Atlanta Center for Puppetry Arts Tour
